Miracle on 34th Street

Miracle on 34th Street is a single residential block in Hampden that every December transforms into one of the most elaborate Christmas lighting displays in the United States. Every house on the block participates, and the result is a dense, joyful, slightly chaotic accumulation of lights, figures, and decorations that feels entirely unlike the corporate holiday displays you find elsewhere.

The display runs from Thanksgiving through New Year's, and the block is packed with visitors every evening. It works best on a cold weeknight when you can actually stand in the street and look around without being swept along by crowds. The Hampden neighbourhood around it is worth exploring at the same time — the Avenue is a short walk north.
