Larcom Theatre

The Larcom Theatre at 13 Wallis Street is a 600-seat auditorium that has been staging live performances since 1912. Originally a vaudeville house, the building passed through several incarnations before being restored as a performing arts venue presenting theater, ballet, music, and comedy.

The North Shore Music Theatre uses the Larcom for some productions, and the venue also stages community theater and educational programming. The interior has good acoustics and a warm, old-fashioned feel that distinguishes it from more polished modern spaces. It's a short walk from the Cabot and the two together make Beverly surprisingly well-provisioned for a city of its size.

A story
The Larcom was built in 1912 as a vaudeville house, one of hundreds that lined New England's rail towns during the era when weekly variety shows were the primary popular entertainment. It survived the vaudeville collapse, the Great Depression, and television, and is now one of the few original theaters still operating on the North Shore.
