A four-storey brick Federal mansion built in 1808 for William Hunt and later occupied by three generations of the Cushing family, including diplomat Caleb Cushing. Home of the Historical Society of Old Newbury since 1955, and one of the few High Street houses open to the public.
The 21 rooms still hold the family furniture, paintings, silver, and china acquired across a century of trade and government service — most pieces have been in the house since they were bought. The walled garden behind is one of the prettiest in town, kept up by volunteers. Tours by guide only; a couple of hours.
