Sandy Point State Reservation

Sandy Point State Reservation protects the wild southern tip of Plum Island, where open sand, marsh, and Atlantic surf meet at the mouth of Ipswich Bay. It is a good place for a windy walk, beach time, and birdwatching.

Some areas are fenced seasonally for nesting piping plovers, so treat the signs as part of the visit rather than an inconvenience. The setting feels much quieter than central Newburyport, even though it belongs naturally with a Plum Island day.
