Things to Do

Newburyport is small enough to be walked in a long afternoon: the brick downtown, the boardwalk along the Merrimack, and High Street with its row of Federal mansions. The two museums worth a visit — the Custom House Maritime Museum and the Cushing House — are within easy walking distance of Market Square. Beyond the city limits, Plum Island and the Parker River refuge are a fifteen-minute drive east.
