The Iron Horse is Northampton's most celebrated music venue — a small club with a capacity of around 200 that has been booking touring acts since 1979. Its size makes it one of the better rooms in New England to see any act that fits: the sightlines are good, the sound is consistently decent, and the proximity to the stage is rare at this level.
The venue books a wide range of genres — folk, singer-songwriter, blues, jazz, world music, indie rock — and has hosted artists early in careers that later filled arenas. Tickets are generally affordable. The adjacent Pearl Street Nightclub (same ownership) handles larger shows; between the two they cover most of what comes through western Massachusetts.
