Provincetown Museum

Cape Cod museum at the Pilgrim Monument covering Provincetown maritime, artistic, and local history

The Provincetown Museum sits at the base of the Pilgrim Monument and gives context to the town beyond its beaches and gallery streets. Its collections cover Wampanoag history, the Mayflower landing story, fishing and whaling, and the long evolution of Provincetown as an artists' colony and LGBTQ resort.

The museum works especially well before or after climbing the monument, since the view from the tower makes more sense once the harbor, dunes, and compact town grid have a story attached. It is one of the few indoor sights in Provincetown that can anchor a rainy or windy Cape Cod day.
