When the Sugar House opened in Corktown in 2011, it was one of the first bars in Detroit doing the new wave of cocktail bar seriously — house-made bitters, hand-cut ice, a printed bound menu thicker than most bibles. It is still one of the best. The room is dark, narrow, and welcoming, with tin ceilings and a long marble bar.
Next door to Slows Bar-B-Q on Michigan Avenue, making the Slows-then-Sugar-House sequence a Corktown classic. Closes around 2 am. The bartenders take questions and recommendations.
