Greenfield Village

80-acre open-air museum of historic American buildings

Address 20900 Oakwood Blvd, Dearborn, MI 48124

Greenfield Village is Henry Ford's outdoor companion to his indoor museum: 80 acres of more than 80 historic buildings he had dismantled and shipped from across the country to be rebuilt in Dearborn. Edison's Menlo Park laboratory complex, where the light bulb and phonograph were invented, was moved here from New Jersey. The Wright Brothers' bicycle shop and family home came from Dayton. The Logan County courthouse where Abraham Lincoln practised law arrived from Illinois.

Costumed staff demonstrate trades and crafts. A working steam railroad, a Model T ride, and an authentic 1913 carousel run for visitors. The Eagle Tavern serves period food. Open April through October plus December for the Holiday Nights programme; closed in deep winter. Buy a combined ticket if you also plan to visit the Henry Ford Museum next door.
