Downtown Marquette punches well above its weight for restaurants and brewpubs. Lagniappe is the long-running Cajun-Creole favourite; Iron Bay Restaurant & Drinkery does upscale comfort food in a former warehouse; the Vierling Restaurant has the best dining-room view of the lake and ore dock.
For beer, Blackrocks Brewery is the local institution — a small craft brewer in a converted house north of downtown, with a friendly tap room and live music several nights a week. Ore Dock Brewing Company also has good beer and a larger space. Donckers, a downtown candy shop and cafe in business since 1896, is the standard breakfast stop.
Pasties — folded meat-and-vegetable pies brought by Cornish miners in the 19th century — are the iconic U.P. food. Jean Kay's Pasties on Third Street is the local choice.
