Eating Out

Biloxi's best eating is away from the casinos. The casino resorts have improved their restaurants considerably, but for a real meal head to the back bay side of the old town, where the less flashy establishments serve the freshest Gulf shrimp and oysters at prices the beachfront can't match.

The Vietnamese community along Division Street runs some of the better Gulf shrimp dishes in the South — a happy combination of Mississippi Gulf seafood and Southeast Asian technique. Look for pho places that double as shrimp boat supply points: they are almost always good. Oysters are best from September through April; the Gulf oyster season follows the months with an R in them for good reason, and the local product is briny and sweet when fresh.
