Getting Around

Natchez is small enough to walk between most of the main sights in the historic district above the bluff. The distance from Stanton Hall to the House on Ellicott's Hill is under a mile, and most of the other downtown mansions fall within comfortable walking distance of each other. Walking is the best way to see the district — it lets you notice the architectural details and the spatial relationships between houses.

Longwood and the Forks of the Road site are outside the walkable core and require a car or rideshare. Horse-drawn carriage tours depart from the historic district and are a reasonable way to get oriented. For Emerald Mound and the Natchez Trace, a car is essential.
