Natchez is in southwestern Mississippi, 100 miles south of Jackson on US-61. The nearest significant airport is Jackson–Medgar Wiley Evers International (JAN), about 100 miles north; Baton Rouge Airport (BTR) in Louisiana is slightly closer at around 85 miles. Both require a car rental — there is no public transport between the airports and Natchez.
By car from New Orleans, the drive is about 170 miles north on US-61, a straight two-lane road through the Mississippi Delta that is interesting in its own right. The drive from Vicksburg takes about an hour. Amtrak's City of New Orleans passes through the area but does not stop in Natchez itself; the nearest station is Brookhaven, 55 miles east.
