Getting Around

Springfield is a car-oriented city, and a rental car is the most practical way to get around and reach the surrounding Ozark region. The main attractions are spread across the city and into the surrounding countryside — Fantastic Caverns is 10 miles north, and Lambert's Café is 15 miles south in Ozark, Missouri.

The City Utilities Bus System (CU Transit) operates local bus routes covering most of the city, but service is infrequent and not well suited to tourist itineraries. Rideshare services (Uber, Lyft) are available and work well within the city. Downtown Springfield is walkable, with the History Museum on the Square, the arts district, and a cluster of restaurants and bars all within easy reach on foot. The Bass Pro Shops flagship is on the southern edge of downtown, about a 15-minute walk from the central square.
