The handsome 1909 Northern Pacific Railway depot is now a popular events venue and one of the best-preserved railroad stations in Montana. The building combines Italian Renaissance and Mission Revival elements in a way that was fashionable for large American railroad stations of its era — arched windows, terracotta ornament, and a broad covered platform that once sheltered travellers arriving on transcontinental trains.
It sits on the eastern edge of downtown, easily combined with a walk along Montana Avenue. The surrounding historic district retains several other late-19th and early 20th-century commercial buildings that give a sense of what Billings looked like when it was a booming railroad town.
