Bozeman is a year-round destination, with different seasons offering entirely different experiences. Winter (December–March) is ski season: Bridger Bowl is in full swing, the downtown stays lively, and snow covers the valley. Temperatures can drop well below freezing, especially at night. Ice climbers converge on Hyalite Canyon from January through February.
Summer (June–September) is the most popular time. The hiking season opens up as the snowpack melts, Yellowstone is accessible, and the farmers' markets and festivals fill the downtown. The climate is dry and pleasant, with warm days and cool evenings. July and August can see accommodation book out; reservations are recommended.
Spring and autumn are shoulder seasons — quieter, cheaper, and with their own appeal. Mud season (April–May) is the least attractive time. October brings golden aspen colours in the mountains and crisp, clear days.
