A small bakery devoted to the Butte pasty — meat, potato, and onion in a thick crust, eaten hot with gravy. Cornish miners brought the recipe with them in the 1880s; it became the lunch of the underground shift because it could be carried, eaten with one hand, and stayed warm at the bottom of a lunch pail.
Joe's is a takeaway joint; eat at one of the few stools or take a pasty to the car. Open daily until late afternoon, then sold out.
