Matt's Place Drive-In

A 1930 drive-in on the southern edge of town, one of the oldest in Montana and listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The menu is unchanged: burgers, fries, hand-spun shakes, and Butte's particular contribution to American fast food, the nutburger — a hamburger patty topped with chopped peanuts and mayonnaise.

It is genuinely worth driving out to. Summer only, cash only, and the queue at lunchtime can be twenty minutes deep. Order a nutburger, a malted, and one of the cracking ginger phosphates if it is hot out.
