Two miles east of Ennis across the Madison River, Jeffers is the older settlement — founded in the 1860s by ranchers and now mostly a scatter of historic buildings and modern ranch houses. The little white-clapboard Trinity Episcopal Church, built in 1889, is one of the oldest in the valley and still active; the Jeffers Inn, also from the 19th century, is now a quiet bed-and-breakfast.
The drive over is short and gives a nice contrast to the busier Main Street side of the river. Park at the church and walk a couple of blocks to get a feel for it.
