Ennis is built around the Madison River — for the dry fly purist this is one of the most famous trout streams in the world — and around the open country on either side. Beyond fishing, you can drive south into the Madison Range or the Gravelly Range for hiking and remote dispersed camping, or push on to Yellowstone National Park about ninety minutes away. The town itself is small enough to walk end to end in fifteen minutes.
