A two-room museum on Broadway with the standard small-town mix of pioneer artefacts, mining gear, and old photographs, but unusually well curated. The mining section is the strongest, with surviving tools and helmets from the Smith Mine, miners' wage books in three languages, and a moving exhibit on the 1943 disaster including the famous slate scratched with goodbyes.
Other rooms cover the Crow Reservation east of town, the building of the Beartooth Highway, and the town's eight-country ethnic mix. The Society also runs walking tours of Broadway and Hi Bug in summer, leaving from the museum door. Half an hour is enough for the displays, longer if you fall into conversation with the volunteers — they often know their subject in unusual depth.
