Lincoln is a car city in the classic American plains tradition. Downtown is compact and walkable — the capitol, Haymarket, and the university are all within comfortable walking distance of each other — but anything beyond that requires a vehicle. StarTran operates the city bus system, with routes covering most neighborhoods, though frequency is modest outside peak hours.
Ride-sharing services operate normally in Lincoln. Cycling is practical downtown and the city has invested in separated bike paths, particularly the MoPac East Trail and the Jamaica North Trail, which are popular with recreational cyclists. Car rental is available at the airport and at several downtown locations.
