Wyuka Cemetery

Nebraska state cemetery and landscaped historic burial ground established in 1869.

Wyuka Cemetery is one of Lincoln's quieter historic landscapes, established by the Nebraska Legislature in 1869 as a state cemetery for the new capital. Its rolling lawns, mature trees, and curving roads follow the rural cemetery tradition, closer to a contemplative park than a grid of graves.

It is worth visiting if you are interested in Nebraska history, landscape design, or the way American cities used cemeteries as public green space before large municipal parks were common. A slow drive or walk reveals governors, civic figures, veterans, and elaborate 19th-century monuments. Be respectful: it remains an active cemetery as well as a historic place.
