Chimney Rock National Historic Site

Chimney Rock is one of the best-known landmarks on the Oregon, California, and Mormon trails, a narrow spire rising above the North Platte River valley. For emigrants crossing the plains, it was a major signpost on the long approach to the Rocky Mountains.

The rock itself is fenced off, but the visitor center and viewpoint explain why it mattered to trail travellers. It pairs naturally with Scotts Bluff National Monument and other Oregon Trail sites around the Nebraska Panhandle.
