Getting There

Winnemucca sits at the junction of Interstate 80 and US Highway 95, which is the only reason it exists.

By road: I-80 east-west connects Reno (2.5 hours) and Salt Lake City (5.5 hours). US-95 north-south runs to Oregon (via McDermitt) and to Las Vegas (8 hours).

By train: Amtrak's California Zephyr passes through once a day in each direction (eastbound around dawn, westbound around midnight) and stops at the small unattended station near the centre of town. It is one of the few rural Amtrak stops where you can actually get off and find a working hotel within walking distance.

By air: Winnemucca Municipal Airport handles general aviation but no scheduled passenger flights. The nearest commercial airports are Reno-Tahoe (RNO) and Boise (BOI), both about 2.5 hours by road.
