Things to Do

Winnemucca is small but worth more than the gas-and-go that most travellers give it. The Buckaroo Hall of Fame and Heritage Museum and the Humboldt Museum together cover the ranching, mining, and Basque heritage of northern Nevada. The Humboldt County Courthouse is a striking 1921 Beaux-Arts building on the main street. For active visitors, the Santa Rosa Range north of town has good backcountry hiking and the Hinkey Summit drive in summer. The lobby of the Winnemucca Hotel — the oldest hotel in Nevada — is worth a quick look on the way to dinner.
