Winnemucca Mountain

The 2,000-metre peak immediately north of town, easily visible from the main street as a flat-topped basalt shoulder. A graded road climbs to a former radar installation near the summit; the views across the Humboldt Valley, the Santa Rosa Range to the north, and the Sonoma Range to the south are some of the broadest in this part of Nevada.

The summit road is rough and best driven in a high-clearance vehicle; in winter the upper section is snowed in. Allow two hours up and back.
