Durham's location in the New Hampshire Seacoast region puts several worthwhile destinations within easy reach. Portsmouth, just fifteen minutes by car (or reachable by Wildcat Transit bus), is the obvious first choice — a beautifully preserved port city with excellent restaurants, colonial architecture, and the Strawbery Banke museum. Dover, just to the north, is a compact city with a lively downtown and easy road connections. Hampton Beach to the south is New Hampshire's main ocean beach destination, a classic American beach strip with a boardwalk and seafood shacks, about 30 minutes from Durham.
