Getting There

Durham is well connected for a small town, primarily because of its Amtrak stop.

By train: The Amtrak Downeaster stops at Durham–UNH station on its daily runs between Boston's North Station and Portland, Maine, with some trains continuing to Brunswick. The ride from Boston takes about 1 hour 45 minutes. The station is on the western edge of campus, an easy walk to the centre of town. This is the most convenient way to arrive without a car.

By car: Durham sits just off Route 4, roughly 60 miles north of Boston. From I-95, take Exit 4W (Route 4 west) toward Durham. The drive from Boston takes about 75 minutes in normal traffic. Parking on campus requires a permit on weekdays; street parking in town is limited. Check UNH visitor parking information before arriving.

By bus: Greyhound and DHART buses connect to nearby Dover, which has more frequent service. The university runs the Wildcat Transit bus system connecting Durham with Dover, Portsmouth, and other nearby towns — schedules are available at the UNH Transportation office.

By air: Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is about 45 minutes south by car and serves several domestic carriers. Portsmouth International Airport at Pease is 20 minutes away and has limited service. Boston Logan is the main regional hub, about 75 miles south.
