The Upper Valley sits at the edge of some excellent day trip territory. Warren, about 45 minutes east, is the gateway to Mount Moosilauke and some of the best hiking in the region. The White Mountains are an hour and a half away and are worth the drive for the scenery alone — the Presidential Range, Franconia Notch, and Kancamagus Highway are all within easy reach. Concord, the state capital, is about an hour south on I-89 and has the State House, the McAuliffe-Shepard Discovery Center, and a good farmers market.
