Littleton is ideally placed for exploring the western White Mountains. Most of the major attractions in this part of New Hampshire are within 30 to 45 minutes by car.
Franconia Notch State Park is the obvious first stop — 12 miles south along I-93, it packs the Flume Gorge, Echo Lake, and the Cannon Mountain Aerial Tramway into one valley, along with some of the finest ridge hiking in the northeast.
Thirty miles east via US-302, Bretton Woods centres on the grand Mount Washington Hotel, site of the 1944 international monetary conference, with the Mount Washington Cog Railway base station just down the road.
Sugar Hill, a hilltop village 10 miles southwest, is worth a detour at any time of year for its views across the Franconia Range — and unmissable in mid-June when the meadows are in full lupine bloom.
