Christ Church

Christ Church is the historic Episcopal church on the corner of Church and Neilson Streets, dating from 1742 — one of the oldest church buildings still in use in New Jersey. The current Gothic Revival structure replaced the colonial original after a fire; the bell tower and adjoining cemetery are the heart of New Brunswick's small surviving colonial-era streetscape.

Several signers and supporters of the American Revolution are buried in the churchyard, and a colonial-era prison cell — Lord Howe's headquarters in 1776 — once stood next door. The interior has fine stained glass; weekday opening hours are limited but Sunday services are open.
