Wildwood's beaches are unusually wide — at some points more than a quarter of a mile from the boardwalk to the water at low tide — and they are entirely free, a rarity on the Jersey Shore where most towns charge daily beach tags. The sand is fine and pale, the slope is gentle, and the surf is small. All of this makes them ideal for young children.
The southern end near Crest Pier is generally quieter; the section opposite Morey's Piers is the busiest. Lifeguards are on duty from Memorial Day weekend through Labor Day. Free Wi-Fi covers most of the beach in summer, and the boardwalk's tramcars stop at the major beach entrances.
