Angel Fire Resort

Angel Fire Resort sits at 8,600 feet in the Moreno Valley and operates New Mexico's most family-friendly alpine ski mountain. The base area has a compact, walkable layout — you can ski from the slopes directly to the lodges — and the 80-plus runs cover beginner through intermediate terrain with one or two genuinely challenging black diamonds on the upper lifts.

Winter is the obvious season, but Angel Fire runs all summer as a mountain bike park. Lift-served downhill trails draw riders from across the Southwest, and rental equipment is available at the base. The resort also hosts trail running events and mountain-top zip lines when the snow is gone.

A story
Angel Fire contains the only half-pipe for snowboarders in the state of New Mexico, a distinction it has held since the snowboard park opened. The mountain's gentler terrain has made it the go-to resort for families from Albuquerque and Santa Fe who find Taos Ski Valley too demanding for young learners.
