Sylvia's Restaurant

Harlem soul food institution since 1962 — fried chicken and collard greens on Lenox Avenue

Sylvia's has occupied its Lenox Avenue corner since Sylvia Woods opened it in 1962. The menu is a catalogue of Southern American soul food: fried chicken, smothered pork chops, collard greens, candied yams, cornbread and sweet potato pie. The Sunday gospel brunch draws visitors from around the world. It is one of the landmarks of Harlem hospitality.
