Gramercy Park

Manhattan's only private park, ringed by elegant townhouses

Address Lexington Avenue between East 20th and East 21st Streets

One of Manhattan's great quirks: a private park in the middle of the city, accessible only to residents of the surrounding townhouses. Even without a key, the wrought-iron perimeter makes for a pleasant stroll. The 19th-century row houses in Gothic revival and Italianate styles that ring the park are among the finest in the city — take the 6 train to 23rd Street and walk a block south.
