The Morgan Library began as J. Pierpont Morgan's private library and still feels like a room built for obsession. The old study and library are the reason to come: carved wood, painted ceilings, rare manuscripts, and shelves that make modern minimalism look timid.
The collection includes a Gutenberg Bible, early printed music, literary manuscripts, and rotating exhibitions drawn from one of New York's great book and art collections. It is an easy, worthwhile detour from Grand Central or the Empire State Building.
