Troy has no commercial airport of its own. The nearest is Albany International Airport (ALB), about 12 miles southwest — a 20-minute drive or a taxi/rideshare ride. From the airport, there is no direct bus to Troy; a rideshare or rental car is the practical option.
By train, Amtrak serves the nearby Rensselaer station (across the river in the town of Rensselaer), which is a stop on the Empire Service and Lake Shore Limited routes connecting New York Penn Station with upstate New York and the Midwest. From Rensselaer station, Troy is a short cab or rideshare ride across the Menands Bridge. There is also a CDTA bus connection, though it is slow.
By car, Troy sits just off Interstate 787, which links it to Albany and the New York State Thruway (I-90). From New York City, take I-87 north to I-90 east, then pick up I-787 north — the drive is approximately 2.5 hours depending on traffic. Parking in downtown Troy is generally easy and cheap by northeast standards; there are several municipal garages and meters throughout the historic district.
Amtrak Empire Service operates frequent daily trains from New York Penn Station to Rensselaer, with travel times around 2 hours 20 minutes.
