Troy has a full continental climate: cold winters with regular snowfall, warm and humid summers, and spectacular autumns. The best time to visit is September and October, when the Hudson Valley foliage turns and the temperatures are crisp but comfortable. The Troy Savings Bank Music Hall and EMPAC both run their main concert seasons from autumn through spring, so a visit timed around a performance makes sense in any season except summer.
The Troy Waterfront Farmers' Market runs on Saturday mornings at Monument Square from spring through late autumn and is one of the best in the Capital District. The Victorian Stroll, held in early December, brings the downtown streets to life with period costumes, music, and vendors — a pleasant if slightly eccentric tradition. Summers are warm enough for walking, though July and August can be humid.
