Frog Level Historic District

The lower part of downtown Waynesville, along Richland Creek, has been revitalised into a district of small breweries, restaurants, and shops occupying rehabilitated historic buildings. It's more casual than Main Street above it, with a brewery-trail atmosphere and outdoor seating along the creek.

The annual Whole Bloomin' Thing Spring Festival is held here each spring, celebrating the native wildflowers that carpet the surrounding mountains. The district connects to a greenway along the creek that offers an easy walk through the valley floor.

A story
"Frog Level" takes its name from its position in a low-lying area along Richland Creek, which flooded regularly before flood-control measures were put in place. The neighbourhood's annual spring festival, The Whole Bloomin' Thing, celebrates the return of wildflowers each year just before the last frost — a tradition that draws around 8,000 visitors to an area that once flooded out its residents.
