Riverfront Park

The main waterfront promenade along the Cape Fear River in downtown

Riverfront Park is the broad promenade along the Cape Fear River in downtown Wilmington, a pleasant stretch of parkland with benches, a small amphitheatre, and excellent views across the water to the USS North Carolina battleship moored on the opposite bank. In the evening, especially in summer, this is where Wilmington comes to watch the light change over the river — the city's overview page says as much, and it's true.

The park anchors the city's social life on warm evenings: food trucks appear on weekends, there are occasional concerts at the amphitheatre, and the restaurants along Water Street behind the park fill up with locals and visitors alike. The walkable riverfront extends north along the Cotton Exchange and south toward the convention centre. Sunrise and sunset are both exceptional from this vantage point.
