Eagles Temple

The Eagles Temple is a Spanish Colonial Revival building completed in 1928 for the Fraternal Order of Eagles, and one of the more architecturally distinctive structures in downtown Canton. The terracotta-ornamented facade, with its arched entrance and decorative tile work, stands out sharply among Canton's predominantly Romanesque and Neoclassical downtown buildings.

The building is listed on the National Register of Historic Places. The Spanish Colonial style is unusual for northeast Ohio and reflects the eclecticism that characterised American commercial architecture in the 1920s, when developers and patrons were willing to reach for exotic styles to distinguish their buildings from the brick vernacular around them. The Eagles Temple is primarily of interest for its exterior — it sits on the southern edge of the courthouse district, easy to include on a downtown walk.
