Canton is best known as the home of the Pro Football Hall of Fame, which draws fans from across the country every summer for the enshrinement ceremony and the Hall of Fame Game. The city sits in Stark County in northeast Ohio, about an hour south of Cleveland.
Beyond football, Canton has a surprisingly rich cultural side. The Canton Museum of Art and the William McKinley Presidential Library and Museum — President William McKinley lived and practiced law here — are both worth a visit. The McKinley National Memorial, where McKinley is buried under a granite dome, is one of Ohio's more impressive monuments. The First Ladies National Historic Site, the only one of its kind in the country, tells the stories of America's presidential spouses through the restored Saxton McKinley House.
Downtown Canton has been quietly reinventing itself, with local restaurants and breweries filling in the old storefronts along Market Avenue. The Palace Theatre, a restored 1926 movie palace, anchors the Arts District and hosts touring performances year-round. For a day out, the nearby Cuyahoga Valley and Amish Country offer easy escapes.
