Getting Around

Downtown Cleveland is compact and safe to walk. Numerous signs and maps let you know where you are and which district you are in.

The Greater Cleveland Regional Transit Authority (RTA) runs buses and light rail (known as the Rapid). The transit hub is at Tower City Center downtown, where a helpful customer service desk and route brochures are available. From Tower City the Rapid reaches the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame area on the E. 9th Street Pier, the West Side Market in Ohio City, Shaker Square, and University Circle. The University Circle station connects to circulator buses: the Circlelink covers the museums and cultural institutions, while the RTA 821 connects University Circle with Little Italy, Coventry Village, Cedar-Fairmont, and Shaker Square.

Taxi stands are in front of Tower City Center on Public Square and at the Marriott Hotel in the Civic and Convention Center District.

For destinations beyond the city, rent a car at the airport. Traffic is light by big-city standards, downtown parking rates are reasonable, and the streets are easy to navigate. The Towpath Trail bike path runs from downtown south along the old Erie Canal route into the Cuyahoga Valley for those who prefer two wheels.

Lolly the Trolley runs narrated sightseeing tours year-round departing from the Nautica Entertainment Complex on the west bank of the Flats. Reservations are required.
