Lane-Hooven House

The Lane-Hooven House is a mid-19th-century Italianate mansion that has survived well enough to stand as one of the best examples of the style in southwestern Ohio. The house dates from around 1863 and reflects the prosperity of Hamilton's manufacturing boom years. It's listed on the National Register of Historic Places and serves as a historic house museum.

The exterior features the characteristic wide eaves, bracketed cornices, and paired arched windows of Italianate architecture. The house is part of the German Village Historic District, the neighborhood where Hamilton's 19th-century German immigrant community established itself. If you're interested in Victorian domestic architecture, it's worth the short walk from downtown.
