Day Trips

The most compelling reason to use Kent as a base is its proximity to Cuyahoga Valley National Park, about 30 km to the west. The park runs along the Cuyahoga River between Akron and Cleveland and is the region's main outdoor draw — excellent hiking, a historic canal towpath, and waterfall trails that are particularly good in spring. The Towpath Trail is the main artery and can be picked up at multiple points.

Akron, 15 km away, is worth a half-day: Stan Hywet Hall and Gardens (a remarkable Tudor Revival estate) and the Akron Art Museum are both genuinely good. The city also has a solid craft beer scene if you want an evening out beyond Kent's student bars.

Cleveland, 50 km northwest, is an easy day trip: the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the Cleveland Museum of Art (free admission, strong collection), and the West Side Market are the main draws. The drive on I-480 or SR-43 is straightforward.
