Meers Store and Restaurant

The Meers Burger, made from grass-fed Texas Longhorn beef from the restaurant's own herd, is the local institution that pulls travellers off the road from Oklahoma City and Dallas. The burger is served on an enormous roll, with a side of seasoned fries; the dining room is the converted 1901 general store, with sloping wooden floors and tin-stamped ceilings.

Open daily, no reservations, queues are normal at lunch on Saturday. Beer and milkshakes on the menu; the cobbler is also worth saving room for.

A story
Meers was a gold-rush boom town of around 500 people in 1901, complete with a hotel, a newspaper, and a stock exchange. By 1905 the gold had run out and the population vanished. Today the restaurant, in the converted Meers Store building, is essentially all that is left.
