Pete's Place

Family-run Italian institution serving Choc beer and lamb fries since 1925

Pete's Place is the most famous restaurant in southeastern Oklahoma, and arguably the most famous Italian restaurant in the state. Pete Prichard opened it as a Prohibition-era speakeasy in 1925 in Krebs, a coal-town suburb of McAlester founded by Italian immigrants. The dining rooms are still small private spaces called "family rooms," a holdover from the bootlegging years.

The menu has barely changed in decades: enormous platters of spaghetti, ravioli, lamb fries, sausage, and steak, served with house-made Choctaw beer (locally just called Choc) that the Prichards have brewed since the speakeasy days. Come hungry, plan to share, and book ahead on weekends.
