Alton Baker Park

Large riverside park north of the Willamette, with Pre's Trail and the rose garden

Alton Baker Park is the long ribbon of riverbank park on the north side of the Willamette, opposite downtown — Eugene's main green space and the home of Pre's Trail, the bark-chip running loop Steve Prefontaine designed and lobbied to have built in the early 1970s. It is still one of the most pleasant places to run in the city.

The park also holds an outdoor amphitheatre (used for summer concerts), the Cuthbert Amphitheater for larger touring acts, a planetarium and science center for kids, a duck pond, and the Owen Memorial Rose Garden with around 5,000 plants. Easy walk or bike from downtown across the DeFazio Bridge.
