Getting There

Scranton is on Interstate 81, the main north-south highway through eastern Pennsylvania, two hours northwest of New York and three hours northeast of Philadelphia. The Wilkes-Barre/Scranton International Airport (AVP) has limited regional flights — mostly American Eagle and Delta connecting through Philadelphia, Charlotte, and Detroit. Most travellers either drive in or fly into Newark and rent a car.

A daily Trailways and Martz Trailways coach service connects Scranton with the Port Authority Bus Terminal in Manhattan; the journey takes about two and a quarter hours and is the cheapest way to arrive without a car. There is no passenger rail service since 1970, though plans for a New York-Scranton commuter rail line resurface periodically.
